About Us

To give artists time to create. To empower them to succeed with the best possible reflection of their work and story.

Local artists contribute to a more beautiful, connected, and just world we all want to live in through their work. They make these contributions in a way that feels most authentic to their definition of success.

Values:

Why focus your energy on trying to take your own photos, do your own design work, or insert-other-draining-task-you-don’t-want-to-do here when you can turn to someone to do it for you? Luckily for you, that’s why we’re here.

That means you get to choose where you spend your creative time instead of being forced to agonize over aspects of the process that prevent you from showcasing your work.

And ultimately, we want to see more art in this world. Great art enriches the community and contributes to positive social change movements over time.

Meet the Porter Loves Team

Nathan J Shaulis

I fell in love with photography the very first moment my father laid a manual film camera in my 12-year-old hands. I studied and practiced for years, learning every aspect of each successive tool by taking photos of anything and everything, finding a special kinship with nature.

As an artist, I love supporting other artists through photography. Artists of all media need clean, clear, and representative images for their work for a myriad of applications, and I love meeting that need.

My work has been published in Pittsburgh Magazine, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The New Yorker, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Pittsburgh City Paper, Whirl, The Jewish Chronicle, and a Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum Exhibition Catalog, among others.

I am enthusiastic about helping artists, and creative business owners find success. I’ve found that building websites, designing business cards, or developing a marketing strategy can be overwhelming for folks who put all their energy into their creative work. We can’t all be great at everything, right?

I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a BFA in Fine Art, with a double concentration in Painting and Sculpture, and a BA in Psychology in 2006. I earned my Masters of Arts Management from the Heinz College in 2007. I then served for ten years as the Design & New Media Manager at Pittsburgh Glass Center, an organization dedicated to supporting glass artists. I recently completed a second 3-year term on the board of Brew House Arts.

Porter

May 9, 2010 - October 3, 2025

Porter was our Boston Terrier/Pug mix. He loved meeting new people, especially if they had treats! He only weighed 23 pounds, but had the strength and energy of a dog many times his size. He was ever vigilant for activities to engage in, especially if they involved the destruction of new toys, investigating new smells in the kitchen, or wrestling with his little sister Jeanie.

He was always a well-behaved model when new equipment came in that needed to be tested.

Jeanie

Jeanie is our Boston Terrier, nicknamed Teeny Weenie Jeanie Beanie because people are always asking if she’s fully grown yet (she is!) We named the business before we adopted her, but she’s just as valuable a part of the team as her older brother. She weighs 14 pounds but is as sensitive and delicate as a dog half her size. When she’s not snuggling under a blanket, she’s battling her brother for toys, nibbling Sam’s nose, or avoiding the camera.
